Bill D'EllisNew Mexico is a wonderful place to live if you are a photographer.and especially if, like me, your favorite subjects are scenics, landmarks and landscapes! Many artists have made their home in New Mexico and the Southwest in order to be close to the unique landscapes and colors found only in the Southwest. It is a rare day when a scene, or moment, cannot be found that is special and unique, crying out to be captured and preserved for future viewing by those who are stirred and blessed by the beauty of nature. A wonderful saying attributed to Ansel Adams is: "Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter."
With the modern, digital cameras almost anyone can capture a beautiful scene that is pretty well exposed and in focus. But, how does one compose and capture a special scene or subject that has been photographed by thousands of people, and published in hundreds of publications and on many web sites, and then use the digital dark room to reveal something unique and special about that image which will have an impact on anyone who views it, and make it truly memorable? For this to happen, I believe the photographer has to be aware and open to the possibilities when going out into the field, and when first opening the image in his or her digital dark room. Only when we are truly present to the moment can something unique, extraordinary and indefinable happen. On rare occasions do I reach that illusive state of mind and have the potential to be "ready to click the shutter," and to discover and develop that exceptional image for which I am always searching. It has been gratifying to see a number of my images in exhibitions at the Enchanted Lens Camera Club, Expo New Mexico, Spring Art Show and Sale at the Cancer Center of New Mexico and at the first Annual New Mexico Photographers Art Show. I feel honored to exhibit some of my photographs here at the Albuquerque Photographers Gallery. They are in wonderful company! Most of my images are available in other formats and sizes, and can be matted and framed so as to better fit in with the décor in your home or office.
